Beautiful capture Heather! Love your advice on 'behind the camera,' especially having some coffee and taking your time!

Behind The Lens
Location
I was taking a walk in my garden in Sussex, NJ, when I saw a number of butterflies feeding on the zinnias. The butterflies were busy feeding and lucky for me- moving slow. I was able to get quite close to snap this shot.Time
It was late afternoon. I had my coffee and my camera bag (which is with me most of the time).Lighting
It was cloudy, and becoming quite overcast. The clouds provided a nice diffused light source.Equipment
For this picture, I used my entry level Nikon D3000, no tripod.Inspiration
I have an eight year old son who loves to try and catch anything in nature. When we capture an up close photo, we race to the computer to see what kind of detail we can see. Macro photography is a great tool for teaching children ( and adults) about the world we live in. This butterfly is one of our favorites.Editing
I did a clarification to add more sharpness (because I didn't use a tripod). I also added a touch of saturation to the orange and then a slight vignette. In my camera bag
I always carry my Nikon D300s with my sigma 70-300mm lens and my sigma 105 macro lens. I let my son use the Nikon D3000.Feedback
The advice I would give is the same that another photographer gave me - don't rush your shot, take your time and follow through. Compose, breathe, shoot.
