Plocica Isle, two slim rocky ribs and a lighthouse, was my favorite dwelling in winter months. Far away, alone and surrounded only by the elements, I loved it (and still do) because it is absolutely clear of any distraction, and thus perfect for writing, photography, or any other creative work.

what a beauty. Lighthouses are nearly always in spectacular lonely places and this one is a gem

Lighthouses have the best views by principle, as these have to be seen from afar even during the day. I like them a lot.

Location
Photo was made on the Plocica lighthouse isle, (mid-Adriatic, Croatia) in the open sea between Korcula and Hvar islands during one of my winer visits / dwellings in the lighthouse (enjoying Christmas and New Year holidays - in silence and alone).Time
Date/Time of making this photo was a long-ago Dec 28th, 2006 at 15:12:49Lighting
All of it: 1/250 sec, f/5, ISO 160, 0.00 eV, Metering Mode: Pattern, Flash Off, Focal Length: 24.3 mm.Equipment
The camera was a SONY model DSC-R1, one of the best Sony's models ever, and a predecessor of a succesful R-10 series. Shot out of hand, with no added equipment.Inspiration
You'll have to believe me this, spending several weeks alone on an isle consisting of two stony "ribs" amid all the fantastic blue brine of Adria is an inspiration in itself! The place, climate, and views all around makes you want to take photos in your sleep, so to say, although the area to walk around is only some 120 times 300 meters. And it's even shorter by ~80 meters when the storm hits the rock, because the tight rocky connection between the "ribs" becomes impassable. In all, it is something right out of Paradise - at least to me!Editing
This one is SOOC, except for the corrective crop.In my camera bag
I find it easier to carry a photo vest than any photo bag. So I load my photo vest with whatever I might need for my photo session, walk or trip, while my photo bags usually keep the equipment I'm not using at the moment. The vest's many pockets usually contain two cameras, spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, and one photo clamp standing in for a tripod. Recently I include a small action camera, mainly for its wide field of view and resistance to water and weather. The vest also has large-lens pockets that contain a small water bottle, sandwich, or a bar of chocolate if I plan on being out for the whole day. There is about three meters length of paracord or similar strong, thin rope, one hefty pocket knife, and a lighter. My smartphone comes along too. It has yet another spare camera, but more importantly the Spirit Level App wich I use to make the phone a perfectly horizontal surface under my camera. This is essential for panoramic sweeps. The app is free, and requires no extra permissions whatsoever. The large back pocket of the vest is reserved for a lightweight rain poncho. If the weather suddenly plays up, the poncho neatly covers all. Using the tools mentioned above, much can be improvised along the way, so that's all I need to make photos.Feedback
First and foremost, let me state that the big part of Plocica isle excursion was based on my belief that I can take care of myself in nigh all situations, which is paramount in visiting faraway places alone! In wintertime even more so, since when there is a strong Bora or a Scirocco, nothing can approach the place - not the boat, not the helicopter, not anything! So be certain of your good health and abilities to pull yourself out of tight situations. Other than that, you'll simply enjoy the fact that you will be able to photograph whatever and whenever you like, as there would be no-one to marr your concentration and choice of subjects. True, the place is excellent for, say, model photography... but the risks will double too. This is one wild, faraway spot smack mid the wide sea, and any responsibility about other than you is, well, a burden. And many times the ultimate truth has been proven; beauty is in simplicity. That truism covers way more area than just photography!
