Sunset. I was fascinated by the pinkish glow from inside the bell tower.Lighting
The theme of Mission work is never done gives the image a story. The glow inside the darkened building is being created by the last rays of sunlight. Even though it is dark, something may still be going on.Equipment
This was shot with my Olympus OMD E-1 and a Zuiko 45 mm f 1.8 lens. I was on a photo walk with several other members of a local enthusiast group.Inspiration
For me, photography is all about using the natural light and beauty of the surroundings, to imply a special feeling in the moment. Much of success comes about from dumb luck. You just have keep your eyes open and look for those opportunities. It is a little like fishing or hunting for lost golf balls.Editing
Post processing for me is mostly slight adjustments to enhancing the light in shadows. I usually expose to capture the colors in the sky and adjust the light in the shadows to bring about missing details. Additionally there is usually some cropping to define the subject and to balance the composition. In my camera bag
This was a photo walk. I don’t carry a bag. I wear my camera around my neck and I put a couple of extra lens in my pockets. One of the features of micro 4/3rd equipment is less weight and bulk. I like having a fast prime lens on the camera and a fast wide angle along with a short telephoto or zoom in my pockets. I prefer to direct my thoughts to feeling the light and the subjects that appear before me. I don’t want to spend precious evening light fumbling with a lot of equipment and adjustment choices. I guess that I have taken so many photos in my 78 year life, that what to use and when to use it does not clutter my conscience thoughts.Feedback
Practice seeing. Even when you don’t have a camera, you can see what is going on. When I have a camera and some of that special light that comes during a storm or when sun is setting, I get very excited and start shooting everything. Later in post production you can trash the mistakes and spot the jewels.
