I took this photo in july 2014 at Trollstigen in Norway. Standing there alone in the fog, I was waiting for the view to become clear. And then it happened, the fog disappeared and though it was 1 am already, one car came slowly up the steep serpentines. It was my dream for a long time to take a photo of lighttrails like this in Norway - and it was just an awesome feeling that it worked out on the most beautiful and famous street. A few minutes later the fog returned, even thicker than before.

Truly epic image. Love the backstory behind it. Proof that being a great photographer is about so much more than having a nice camera. You need an idea, the ability to pull it off technically, and the patience to make it happen. Really awesome shot!

Amazing shot. One of the most breathtaking I have seen so far ! I really like the way the lights turn red then yellow as the vehicule takes the curves.

This is one of the best Trollstigen shots I have seen so far! The car trail looks so awesome, coming out of the mist. Having been there myself I know how lucky one has to be some times to get a shot without fog :)

Location
This photo was taken during a roadtrip around the Baltic Sea in western Norway. It shows one of the most popular touristic streets, the Trollstigen Road.Time
When I arrived at the visitor center above the road the whole szene was covered by fog. I wanted to take a lighttrail like this for a long time, but the fortune seemed to be not with me. After hours of waiting I decited to take a look at the viewpoint without my equipment. Suddenly the fog disappeared and I ran back to get my camera. When I placed my camera, the fog already covered the road again. But now I decided to wait - maybe the szene would clear up again, I thought. At propably 1am it really happened and fortunately a car slowly came up the steep serpentines.Lighting
In this time of the year it's not getting really dark in Norway. The nights are shorter the more in the north you are. I only used the natural light and the lights of the car of course.Equipment
For this picture I used a Canon EOS 70D, the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, a tripod and a external shutter release.Inspiration
I love to take extrem long exposure pictures especially of nightskies. I used the same techniques as in my startrails. I saw pictures like this before and the Trollstigen was the perfect location to give it a try.Editing
This is a stacked lighttrail picture. I used multiple pictures taken over about 18 minutes with an exposure of 30sec combined with Lightroom and Photoshop. In my camera bag
With my Canon EOS 70D I mostly use wide angle lenses like the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 and a Sigma 10mm f2.8 Fisheye. Additionally I have always the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and the Sigma 70mm f2.8 in my bag. Since a few weeks I also have a Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3. I also never forget spare batteries, my compass, a flashlight and diverse filters.Feedback
Sometimes it seems to be impossible to take a photo you dreamed of. Like with this picture and the thick fog covering the mountains. But finally the fog added something to this picture I've never expected to take. My advice: Go out and take photos no matter what the conditions are like!
