An Eye Full of Sound (Synaesthesia)
by Darren Bailey LRPS
(Self Portrait)

As our ghostly pianist plays colours are formed around his hand and emanate from the keys.

in the psychological phenomenon known as “synaesthesia,” individuals’ sensory systems are a bit more intertwined than usual.
Some people, for example, report seeing colours when musical notes are played.
Other possibilities are, hearing colours and tasting smells.

What makes strange phenomena like synaesthesia all the more fascinating is that they raise unsettling questions about some of the most fundamental givens of what is “Normal” , Does colour even exist or is it merely a product of our fancy?
Do things have inherent static smells, tastes, sounds and colours or do we arbitrarily intuit those from our own minds to attribute to them?

Composers and Pianists through history have been known to have had this condition most famously Mozart himself (represented by the ghostly hand)
Indeed there are many of todays artists that see music in colours.

Piece created using a Nikon D90 and a Sigma 150mm f2.8 Macro

Methylated Spirit was sprayed onto my hand and ignited after a short moment I removed my hand with the shutter remaining open on the camera while I plunged by burning hand into a bucket of water, The removal of my hand with the shutter still open is what creates the ghostly effect of my hand.
