Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken out on location at a local lodge and bird sanctuary. The photo was taken in their restaurant which is a glass walled area with a tented roof.
Time
This photo was taken at Midday in summer with the temperature at around 33 Degrees Centigrade, the light out side of the restaurant was way to hard to work with with glare being the main issue. But with the restaurant designed the way it was, it allow for some great photos... Know your equipment and it's limitations...
Lighting
I wanted to capture as much emotion as I could with this photo, and as such I needed the best light available on her face. The area was very well lit, but by having her face me while my back was against the main glass wall, approximately 2 meters from us, it allowed enough light to expose her face and to almost black out the back ground with very light post processing.
Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 700D and a 55 - 250 mm Kit lens, No other equipment was used.
Inspiration
My daughter is going through this period in her life where she is trying new things emotionally. On this day she was a real roller coaster and I just wanted to capture thispart of her life as her facial expressions are amazing and full of emotion.
Editing
In this photo, all that I had to do was change the photo from color to black and white and lightly adjust contrast and brightness. About a minutes worth of editing with Canon DPP. I don't believe in over editing.
In my camera bag
I must admit that I carry around very little equipment, mainly for insurance reasons, So I normally have my 2 kit lenses, A 18 - 55 and a 55 - 250 with me, A spare battery and my Flash which 9/10 times I only use as a Light filler.
Feedback
Know your equipment, trust your equipment and start with family and or friends. This will help you learn to pick up when a special moment is about to happen as you can normally read people close to you better. From there with practice, you will learn to read passerby's and the likes.
