Behind The Lens

Location

Blackrock Castle Observatory, Blackrock, Cork, Ireland.

Time

This was in the late afternoon, giving the side lighting of the castle.

Lighting

I took multiple exposures here, to ensure that the darker side of the castle wasn't lost compared to the harsher side lighting.

Equipment

This was handheld, if I like the look of something now I take multiple shots at different exposure levels. Nikon D3100, my kit lens 18-55mm.

Inspiration

I walk here often, for fitness and for a relaxing break. I usually bring my camera, my kit lens and my 55-200mm lens, then I just wander around looking for shots to take. As I was walking back here, I saw this view so took some shots. :)

Editing

Merged 3 exposures together in Photomatix and just brought out the golden light a little.

In my camera bag

Nikon D3100, 18-55mm, 40mm, 55-200mm, cleaning kit, SB-400 flash, wired remote, spare batteries for flash, spare memory cards. I can also fit my 70-300mm in if needed, it's a Sigma lens, it can be quite soft at 300mm so I rarely use it these days.

Feedback

A tripod would help here, as I did have issues merging the 3 images as it was all handheld, I had to crop some and edit some seperately to get them to all fit together properly. Find a place you love to walk and just see what you can find. :)
