On a nice Wednesday I decided to go up on the summit of our local ski area. Sadly the last possibility to get back down was to take the last ropeway at 5 pm. So not enough time to stay till the really last sunrays of the day. So I tried to stay as long as possible and as kind of a luck at the last moment 2 people, who slept at the summit, walked on the path in the direction of the sun. The moment when you say to yourself "Now is the perfect shot", thats amazing. Thats how one of my best shots ever till now accrued.

Location
The shot was taken on the summit of my home ski area over 2500 meter over sea. This day the temperature was really cold, about -18°C, and strong wind at this altitude. But as there was a perfect mixture between nice blue sky and still some fiew clouds a little under and above the loction turned out to be perfect.Time
I remember well this moment which resulted in one of my best images. I went up to the top of the local ski area on this nice Wednesday afternoon to take some shots of the summit station. During 2 hours I was walking around the building to get the best point of view with the sun slowly going down. Not so happy about the result I went back to take the last rope way down at 5PM. Just before the rope way started I saw this perfectly matching composition. Really an image in the last second.Lighting
The light in this shot should express some kind of romantic atmosphere combined with a fantastic view over the surrounding mountains. In addition, as the location was exactly in between two levels of clouds, the light reflected really well and it brought some dynamic in the picture.Equipment
I used my Nikon D750 with the Nikon 16-35mm f/4 wide angle lens for this shot. I had my try pod with me but as I was in a hurry I could not use it for this specific capture.Inspiration
I tried to express this pretty romantic sceen with the couple in the foreground looking straight into the nice orange sunset and the magnificent panorama of the high mountains all around. In addition, there is a contrast of the cold blue snow of the winter and the warm orange of the sun. This combined with the countless leading lines of the clouds, the path and the couple looking to the sun was what I tried to compose together to create this shot.Editing
As this shot is taken straight against the sun the luminosity difference between the sky and the clouds in the middleground was pretty big. That's why I did a 3 shot bracketing with +-3 eV. Afterwards I merged the 3 exposures using luminosity masks in Adobe Photoshop to regain details in the highlights and shadows from the 2 other exposures. Alle the rest of the developement has been done in Lightroom. In my camera bag
As I am mostly a Landscape Photographer my equipment is really set up for that too. On a normal day when I plan to go somewhere to take shots I take the above mentioned equipment as well as a Manfrotto BeFree tripod (really light and handy), a Sigma 120-400 f/4.5-5.6 Telezoom lens to get some completely different perspectives and some filters (1 Circular Polarizer and a ND500 Filter).Feedback
Never hesitate to try a shot. The most fatal thing you can do is to watch out of your window at home and tell yourself that it is not worth it with this weather- or light condition. Exactly in such kind of situations you can miss the most spectacular and unpredictable lights. When I was at the bottom of the rope way I really hesitated if it would be worth it or not. Luckily I did the right decision but I would not hesitate again.
