Sometime in the afternoon, shortly after lunch, since the only time I'm there to walk around is after taking my boys to lunch in Palmer Square when I'm off for the summer.Lighting
I believe it was a sunny day. Thankfully with the sun overhead it did not paint one side of the hall too strongly, as you can see there are only windows on one side.Equipment
My Canon Rebel xsi. Since then I've upgraded to a Canon 7D and a 5Diii, but it just goes to show what those consumer level models are capable of when you're hungry to learn!Inspiration
I love the classic architecture; the look of the arches, the texture of the stone, the peacefulness in the line and symmetry. Perhaps my favorite part of this picture are the two rectangle windows on the back wall. The little bit of yellow in the glass and the shape of them lend a nice focus to the end of the leading lines without being distracting.Editing
I took the three shots (exposure 0, +2, -2) and merged them in Photomatix Pro. The shots were handheld; after 30+ years of piano I'm pretty steady when I need to be and the software does the alignment pretty well. Then in Lightroom I adjust the color balance and contrast to play up the textures. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 5Diii and my Canon 7D. I'm using enjoying prime lens more and more and my current favorite is an 85mm.Feedback
This is an area where lots of photographers go to shoot, especially after wedding in the chapel. If you're shooting a popular location, think about what is it that will make your image stand out from the hundreds of other times it has been shot. For me it was to appreciate the symmetry and many textures of the location. As with any HDR image, try to resist the urge to over do it and go crazy with the color.
