Lovely mood, atmosphere, colours and composition. Beautiful reflections. Great image. I wonder if this isn't even a bit stronger in a 2:3 / 4:6 crop where you lose the bottom bit of river below your signature. Just a thought and I hope you dont mind the suggestion. I really do like this image

Location
The photo was taken In the Proud Lake Recreation area near Milford, Michigan, this is an area of the Huron River that is a very popular spot to stop when Canoeing or Kayaking, it has a nice picnic area and shallow sandy area for swimming.Time
2:00 PM in the afternoon. We all know afternoon light can be challenging, but don't let it stop you from taken pictures. See the light and use the light.Lighting
Due to the time of day, I decided that HDR would be appropriate to get all of the Light and Shadow detail. but once I saw the three shot series, I thought the 0 EV shot would provide all of the detail I was looking for. It was a cloudy day so the light was flat, which is not a bad thing as it softens the shadows a little, so you would have to increase the contrast in order to retain the detail. The are many ways to do that in Post processing.Equipment
I Used a Canon 7D camera with a 17-85mm 3.5 - 5.6 Zoom lens at 17mm, Benro Travel Angel Carbon Fiber Tripod.Inspiration
It was January 1, New Years day and I was scouting for places to shoot. I actually did not intend to get any great shots that day, just scoping out the area for future shoots. However, the test shots came out better than intended. When I set up the Tripod I could "see" this shot in my mind, the only thing I did not see until I started to work on the shot was the kayaker under the right side of the bridge. Had I noticed him, I would have stayed a little longer to get some shots of him paddling in the open river. A missed opportunity.Editing
I am a post processing fanatic, The initial Post Processing was done in Lightroom 4.5, opened up the shadows and turned down the highlights and Photoshop CS5 to remove the blue cast in the snow, I enhanced the Detail with Color Efex Pro 4, then took it back to Photoshop where I used Motion Blur to add movement to the water and masking it out of the balance of the shot. Then back to Lightroom and increased the vibrancy and added sharpening. In my camera bag
My trusty Canon 7D, multiple Memory Cards, Cable Release, Filters (Polarizing, UV, Color Filters) a bag of Skittles, it's nice to have a snack available, the Kit Lens; Canon 18-55mm 3.5-5.6, Canon 24-70mm 2.8 II, Canon 17-85mm 3.5-5.6. Just purchased a piece of Welding glass to serve as a 10 stop ND filter as I am getting into Long exposures during daylight hours. Canon 580EX Speedlight flash. Look around you, there is always something to shoot. To borrow a phrase from others; "Fill the Frame with what you like". Don't be afraid to "make" pictures. Viewbug.com is a great place to seek out photographers that inspire you and learn how to make beautiful pictures. If something catches your eye, shoot it. There is a reason it caught your eye so capture the shot and find out why. Others should appreciate it as well, don't forget to share.
