Great photo about toiling against the odds

Behind The Lens

Location
It was taken in one of my favourite cities, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, UK.
Time
It was a typical autumnal day. It was about 14:00hrs.
Lighting
It was a typical overcast grey, north of England day, which has the affect of flattening everything.
Equipment
This image was taken a few years ago and as far as I remember it was on a FujiFilm EXR camera. No tripod or flash.
Inspiration
These steps are quite iconic in Newcastle and lead up from the river area to the town by what remains of the castle. As you can see they are quite a challenge and most people avoid them at the best of times. So here was a lady heavily laden down with heavy shopping bags climbing the steps, which would be hard enough but it's also raining hard making the old stone steps even more perilous. At the time this lady showed great tenacity and strength of character. Which shows the Toon (local name for Newcastle) spirit which is a city and region that has had it's fair share of knock backs. But the people always triumph.
Editing
As far as I remember I just desaturated it to enhance the greyness of the day.
In my camera bag
Nowadays I carry my trusty Nikon D5200, plus Nikkor 55-300mm, Nikkor 35mm and my kit lens. I never use a flash of any kind.
Feedback
All I can say is ALWAYS carry your camera, make sure you have a full battery and a functioning memory card and possibly a spare. Don't ever tell yourself that there's no point in taking your camera with you today as the conditions aren't right. A great image doesn't require dramatic lighting, it just needs a good eye that can see a story.
