Behind The Lens

Location

This image was photographed at a studio at The Cape Town School of Photography.

Time

It was probably about midday.

Lighting

This was shot with a single studio light, places behind and to the right of the model. Half of the light was covered by a black board so only a small section would hit the model.

Equipment

Canon 550D, Canon 18-35mm, Elinchrom studio light.

Inspiration

We had to explore the body for a college project, and I wanted a classy and dramatic way to show that off, without being crude about it.

Editing

Yes. I pushed the contrast waaaay up, pushed the highlights up after that too and took a few patches of light off her face where it had spilled onto her.

In my camera bag

I now have a Canon 5D Mark II, I shoot on either a Tamron 90mm, Canon 50mm f1.4 or a Sigma 24-105mm f4. I also have Yongnuo triggers, a Canon 430 EX II Speedlight and a small flash diffuser.

Feedback

This took a lot of time and playing with angles. The closer the light is to the back of the model, the thinner the silhouette will be!
