The photo was taken in one of the studios of Samara city in Russia. That time I wanted to create a simple portrait on the white background.Time
We had that photoshoot in the evening. But it wasn't so important. In this studio there weren't any windows and I planned to use only artificial light.Lighting
I wanted to create something tender and I needed really soft light. I had three sources of flash lighting. I decided to use two narrow softboxes (30?100 cm) to light the background. And I had only one square softbox (80x80 cm) to light the face of my model and there were no reflectors. I didn't want deep shadows on the face and there was one way to do this. The square softbox was placed almost directly against the face of the model. But this gave us a little bit flat light. To fix it I asked my model to move one of curls closer to her nose and that gave us some kind of depth.Equipment
To do this shot I used Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 70-200mm lens and three softboxes with flash lighting.Inspiration
I love Peter Hurley's photographs. So It was my inspiration for that shoot.Editing
That time I was so lucky to have a model with perfect skin. But still I had to improve some things. I made eyes a little bit more bright. than I worked with hair. The base color had yellowish tint. I remove this tint to make hair look softer. And of course I used dodge&burn to add some depth.In my camera bag
My main camara is Canon 5D Mark III. My favorite lens is Canon 70-200 mm 4.0. I adore the picture it gives. Also I have in my bag Canon 40 mm 2.8 lens, Canon Speedlite 430 II, color gels for flash, monopod which I use sometimes for holding flash, PocketWizard synchronizer, reflector 5 in 1, Lenspen for cleaning lens, business cards.Feedback
First of all, you need to clearly imagine the end result. Find the model which suits to your idea. Then think about a lighting scheme. In headshots it is really important to catch the mood and eyes expression. So never give up and keep going until you have the result you wish to have.
