Location
This shot was taken at Lake Heron, in the South Island of New Zealand looking towards the Southern Alps. This area is home to me and very familiar.Time
This was taken just after noon, during winter you will find the sharper, more crisp lighting due to the lower sun at this season.Lighting
Of course with outdoor shots the lighting is out of our control aside from post editing and camera settings at the time of shot. Many landscape shots for me are a matter of the right place at the right time.Equipment
This shot was taken on my dad's snap shot using automatic settings. Again the right moment can reveal the best lighting and conditions for a shot.Inspiration
This area is local and very familiar. The right moment allowed me to capture a rich combination of colors and mood. Dad and I often travelled around the country side to appreciate the embrace and serenity of nature.Editing
Photoshop can be good or bad; in this case it worked to my advantage to recreate the sharp bite of the cold that day. I brought up the contrast and saturation slightly, though i'm not sure how the histogram faired. In my camera bag
I only own a phone camera now as i do not have much time to travel and shoot due to the demans of work in the visual effects industry. Though as time and opportunity permits i'd like to invest in some gear to get out again. I have trained a few years in photography from a very young age, much or which using a film slr and dark room processes.Feedback
When capturing landscapes a famous landscape photographer once told me much of the shot is dictated by the weather and this dictates lighting of course. Be patient, observe and plan for the weather after scouting your location to get the best shot. In winter i find sharper lighting and contrast, especially early morning. Be prepared before you shoot and study how to shoot for all conditions to take advantage of what opportunuties arise.
