I mainly do portraits, but I really hold this image close to my heart. This was taken about a week ago. Both my grandparents have pasted away and last week we sold their house that I grew up in. I went to the house one last time and took some pictures around the house. My grandmother always had the most beautiful flowers, and even though she has been gone two years now, it was comforting to see that all her flowers are still going strong. Find comfort in the little things.

Behind The Lens

Location

I mainly do portraits, but I really hold this image close to my heart. Both my grandparents have pasted away and we were had sold their house that I grew up in. I went to the house one last time and took some pictures around the house. My grandmother always had the most beautiful flowers, and even though she has been gone two years now, it was comforting to see that all her flowers are still going strong. Find comfort in the little things.

Time

This photo was taken right before the sun went down. I knew I wanted beautiful photos to remember, and I wanted beautiful light.

Lighting

I loved the golden light that was shining on this beautiful flowering tree that was in my grandparents' yard. I found a place where the light was peaking though the branches on the other side of this bloom. I wanted to make the light and branches frame the flower.

Equipment

This was taken with a 6D Canon DSLR. The lens used was a Canon 70-200 2.8L

Inspiration

My grandmother inspired me. She was such a big part of my life, and I wanted images that would honor her memory. She loved her flowers and was an artist herself, so I couldn't think of a better way to honor her memory than combining the two.

Editing

I edited this image with Photoshop Elements 11 and Lightroom 5.

In my camera bag

I have a couple cameras and several lenses, but here lately I have just carried my Canon 6D and my Canon 70-200mm 2.8L lens

Feedback

Since I have become a photographer I see everything around me differently than I did before. I see beauty in places that I didn't see before, and I am constantly studying the light around me. I have almost become obsessed, but it has made me a better photographer. This picture is unique and beautiful to me because of the beautiful golden light hitting the bloom. Without that amazing light it would just be a picture of a bloom. Still the same beautiful bloom, but without the light it wouldn't be the same beautiful image.
