Location
A private residential estate called The Fly Inn Estate close to Bapsfontein!Time
The photo was taken at approximately 17h30. We had to travel quite a distance to get to the estate, and by the time we arrived, a thunder storm was on its way. The owner of the aeroplane had to push the aircraft out of the hanger onto an open piece of field, mainly because of the beautiful sunset in the background. By that time we had to play quick and had about 10 minutes for shooting.Lighting
As you can see the sunset was spectacular that day. Being an avid lover of off camera lighting, I used two bare Canon Speedlites to mix the ambient light with the OCF lights. I just love the dramatic effect a sunset adds to certain photos.Equipment
Canon 5D MKIII Camera, Canon 24-70 f2.8 lens, x2 Canon 600EX-RT Speedlites and Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RTInspiration
Etienne and Ignette are both pilots, jetsetting all over the world. Needless to say, their aim was to have a couple shoot done that depicts their passion and love for aviation and flying, with a bit of a vintage flair. They really went all out in planning their photoshoot, with the most spectacular outfits and props. So my inspiration is always a combination of what I do well and the couple's enthusiasm and co-operation - a winning combination!!Editing
I did some editing in Photoshop - as always starting with RAW post processing with a few colour tweaks. After that I enhanced the sky a bit with some HDR layers and lastly a bit of vignetting to add some drama. In my camera bag

Have patience, plan ahead, watch the weather forecast, and have fun. If you have a passion for what you do, and know your equipment, no situation will be a challenge, not even a thunder storm :-) Oh yes ... get an assistant, you always need someone to assist running around with your equipment and lights, it really helps.
