Behind The Lens

Location

I was driving around in West Newbury Ma. on a snowy morning looking for photo for a magazine I was shooting for, I had grabbed a coffee and pulled into a Rec area parking lot. I had a 70-200mm lens on my d300s and I notice a lot of birds in a berry bush, at first I though t they were robins, I could get close to them as they woul fly away, so I drove right up next to the bush and just waited.

Time

Morning around 9 am, it was a very grey snowy day with an even defused light. It made the color of the Waxwing and berries really pop against the grey.

Lighting

Just a perfect snowy day, we get a lot of them in New England

Equipment

I used a d300s, a sigma 70-200 2.8 lens, I rested the lens on the car windo for support.

Inspiration

I needed to get a winter cover for Newburyport Magazine.

Editing

Minimal ppost processing, just a little exposer compensation and cropping

In my camera bag

When I'm working ( I'm a photojournalist) I carry 2 bodies, right now that's a d610 with a 17-35 sigma, and a d500 with a 70-200 Sigma. In my car I have a fish eye, a 100mm macro Sigma, and a 200-500mm Nikon, assorted flashes. A tri pod, ( I almost never use, and a mono pod that I use all the time.

Feedback

Be patient and pay attention. there are photos everywhere, and for birds, sometimes they don't see cars, it doesn't happen alot that you can drive up to them, but it's something to keep in mind.
