I like the Old twisted cedars, they have a tremendous amount of character. They are a story unto themselves.Editing
This picture was a little monochromatic right out of the camera. I processed this picture in LR5. The colors, because of the time of day had not stated to take on the rich contrasts that are there in a softer light. I adjusted the highlights, shadows and blacks and tweaked the temperatures a little to bring up the warmth. I then used the adjustment brush to lighten the cedar and allow it to move to the forefront. In my camera bag

I wanted this to be the focus of the viewer. The surrounding landscape was uninteresting and this tree has character. Getting low and filling the frame with the tree was the only way to have a personal relationship with it. I also wanted to catch the high clouds in the background to give the tree perspective and show the coming storm. I sit on the ground a lot, I find that is the only way to tell some stories from the subjects point of view [you have to get on their level].
