I took this photo when we were camping in the fall at Grand Rivers, Kentucky. My friend Barb and I were looking at the beautiful fall foilage and took our cameras so we could try and capture some of the wonderful colors that is so prevalent down there in October. People come to this area from all over because of the lakes and pristine beauty that is typical of the Kentucky and Barkley Lake area.Time
Its been a while so my best guesstimate on what time of day would be later in the afternoon. We had sun but the terrific tree coverage made for some beautiful canopy looking shots. It was a perfect fall afternoon with lots of possibilities since there are so many woods around that area and my friend and I took our time and just had a lot of fun with it.Lighting
Since it was later in the afternoon I knew we would get some good light and the trees kept it just perfect. It is always very beautiful in Grand Rivers, Kentucky. Lots of wooded areas and lots of beautiful fall light casting on the trees.Equipment
I was using a Nikon D3100 and a 50 mm lens. No tripod. We were just having fun on a beautiful fall day so me and my friend were traveling light. Didn't want to have to carry much with me as we were tromping through the woods.Inspiration
I would have to say fall is my favorite time of year. As a photographer I was just trying to capture what I loved, and my favorite thing to do in the fall is trek around in the woods, smell the leaves and take pics to capture those fall moments and try to do it justice. When we came upon that windy road with the trees on either side and the beauty of the leaves...I knew we had to stop and try to capture that special scene.Editing
I dont remember doing much post processing. I think I did clone something out of the pic and I probably added a tiny bit of saturation. In my camera bag
I normally carry my Nikon D5200, kits lens, 50 mm lens, and a 55-300 mm lens. Lens wipes, charger, batteries, extra sd card.Feedback
Grand Rivers, Kentucky is a photographers paradise. We have lakes, sailboats, a lighthouse and lots of wooded areas with wildlife. If you are wanting to capture something similar, I would recommend coming in the fall when the leaves change and just roaming around in the woods. You might even get lucky and encounter a beautiful deer or two.
