He wasn't being ill, he was being like the majority of the passengers this day, including yours truly - finding an available window to hang out of, absorbing the sound sight and smell of the steam locomotive :-)) Oh! and getting faces and hair full of soot! ;-)

How I wish I could have been there. Looks like it was an enjoyable ride. Nice POV.

Frank, it was by sheer CHANCE that we were even on this locomotive at all! Just four weeks prior, I'd just caught one of those (otherwise annoying!) floating advertisments on a social page, and clicked it ... and there it was, a chance to catch some history! A very very long day (18 hours from start to finish) but so so enjoyable!!!! :-)) I wouldn't do such a lengthy event again, but would go on another steam ride, sometime next year ... our Summer is nearly upon us, and the steam locos will soon be put to sleep, to reappear in the cooler months, when sparks and embers from their stacks are not such a problem for the outer bushland of our country, where these big metal beasts like to travel :-))
Grateful for the comment and PR, Frank, appreciated! :-))

I like the blurry first guy and the sharp 2nd guy. Good detail, dramatic sky kind of mirroring the steam. Cool shot.

Loads of us hanging out the windows, at any given point of the day, Carol :-)
Even more so, when the locomotives were pumping out the smoke and steam, as in this image - I got as many shots as I could, particularly when the loco was belching out dramatic smoke, but there's only so many "smoke" shots one can post, without boring the viewer ;-) Appreciate the PR, thanks stacks! :-)))

For those who have travelled on a steam train, this evokes the feeling of smoke and steam combined. The black and white combines with that to help re-live that experience.

David, until this day, I'd not travelled on a steam train! What an experience! :-D
I'm a silly hopeless romantic when it comes to things old, and when the loco's pulled into Melbourne's modern main station at the beginning of the journey (there were two coupled together!) I could feel a big lump of nostalgia trying to rise in my throat and eyes! :-D
Thanks so much for the comment/PR, David, it was a fabulous (but lonnnng!) day out, one I'll not forget, and an image that could only be b/w! :-)))

Congratulation. Well deserved. As already mentioned by others one can smell, see and feel the locomotive. It reminds me of my favorite Buster Keaton movie, the general.
