Behind The Lens

Location

When I took this photo I actually was very new to photography and was still only messing around. This was just captured in my garden at home.

Time

It was captured in the morning before the sun was too high.

Lighting

It was a dark and gloomy day out.

Equipment

I used a Canon T2i with my 18-55mm lens and then used a snap on macro lens on top of that lens in order to get so close to it.

Inspiration

I had seen many photos with the dark negative space and I have always loved them, in all honesty, for this particular photo I really just got lucky with how it turned out. I took a lot of photos and this one worked the best.

Editing

I increased the contrast and sharpening in lightroom.

In my camera bag

I used to have a Canon T2i, now I use a Nikon D7100 and my most used lens is a 18-55mm but I also often use a 55-200mm and my macro filter.

Feedback

The best way to capture this photo is through staging, use a black box or black background and use your own lighting. You can be more creative that way and you are more likely to have success with the photo.
