Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the camping of Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, next to Lake Iberá, in Corrientes, Argentina.

Time

This one was taken during a late spring afternoon, in December.

Lighting

We were near the lake shore, sitting at some tables. Luckily, I had the sun setting at my back, giving a warm, nice lightning.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon Powershot SX50hs

Inspiration

We were on a study trip, studying Vertebrates. The Esteros del Iberá is one of the most important fresh water reservoirs, and it's inhabited by numerous animals and plants. There are many interesting and unique animals, and we were identyfing this snake that was found in the camping before releasing it. It moves hypnotically and opens its mouth big when feeling threatened. I wanted to take a photo from the front when I saw how interesting the composition was. The snake facing away from me and a friend holding its camera and photographing right in front.

Editing

There was little post-processing in this shot. I added a bit of contrast, reduced the noice and enhanced the details in the snake.

In my camera bag

My camera, a few extra memory cards, another battery and a lens cleaner kit.

Feedback

I don't have a lot of experience but I have read a lot of other photographers stories, tips. I have found, as many say, that when you're photographing animals, a fast shutter speed is essential. You may wish to freeze the animal in its action and some animals are really quick.
