Location
This picture was taken in South Africa on a site called Entabeni, a private game reserve north of Johannesburg.Time
It was in the middle of the day and the sun was quite brutal. As I was passing a shrubbery, suddenly this lovely pair of Nyala (Tragelaphus angasii) showed up. The kid was a little nervous and did seek comfort with its mother.Lighting
Luckily the shrubbery took some of the sharp light away, thus I got rid of sharp shadows.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS-1D X with EF300mm f/2.8L IS II USM, hand held.Inspiration
The beauty of the wilderness in South Africa, the smells of the savanna - well, if you have been there you know what I mean - if not, go there and experience it! It makes me feel a deep urge to try to capture it all with my cameras. I just love to get pictures where you can see some kind of interaction between animals, and I always want eye contact if possible. That makes the picture come alive, in my opinion.Editing
The only post processing I did with this picture was to lighten it up a bit and crop it.In my camera bag
I am the type of photographer that want to bring as much as I can carry. Unfortunately I'm not super strong, so I normally have two cameras, at the moment it is a Canon EOS-1D X and a 5D. On this safari I used my EF300mm f/2.8L IS II USM, my 70-200 and a 16-35.Feedback
The only advice I can give, since it works for me, is to feel warmly for whatever you want to depict. The feeling shows in the pictures. The techniques you can learn from a book.
