Nice composition...I especially like the dreamy effect of the minimum depth of field.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this at the Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin, Texas.

Time

It was closer to mid-day. We normally go at sunrise and shoot until around noon, before it gets too hot in the spring and summer months. I remember it was later in the morning and I was getting some last minute shots around the visitor's center.

Lighting

Since it was so close to mid-day it was getting harder and harder to keep my shadow and the shadow of my camera out of the picture.

Equipment

This was taken with an iPhone using an Olloclip macro lens.

Inspiration

I had taken a photo in mid-day with my phone previously. It was a pink rose and it came out amazing with the lighting and focus, so as silly as it sounds, I wanted to try on another type of flower one that had bright colors and could easily get washed out.

Editing

I didn't use any post processing on this photo at all.

In my camera bag

Anytime I go out I take my phone, my Olloclip lenses, and a tripod with attachment for my phone.

Feedback

Harsh lighting can go different ways. I was lucky this shot came out the way it did. I have tried others that didn't come out so well. My advice is patience, just like anything in photography. If it doesn't work once doesn't mean it won't again. Try a different time because even 5-10 minutes could do it and don't rush.
