I took this picture of this beautiful Bride right before we left for the ceremony. I met her and her family at her house beforehand to get a few pictures of her getting ready. As soon as I walked into the house I saw those pretty lace curtains and knew we had to take a picture there. Once the bride had her hair and makeup done I asked her to meet me in that room when she had her wedding dress on. I just said "Look out that window and think about your handsome groom waiting for you at the alter!"Time
It was around 1 p.m. because her ceremony was at 2 and this was right before heading to the church. Perfect time of day for lots of streaming sunlight!Lighting
It was a beautiful sunny day and the light coming in through the window and through the lace curtains made a soft, almost hazy glow, yet was still bright enough to see the details in her dress and show her perfect silhouette!Equipment
The only thing I used for this shot was my camera with my 18-300mm lens. I needed a lens that would get the whole scene in it because the room was small and I was pretty close to her.Inspiration
The lace curtains and beautiful sunlight coming in inspired me! When I asked the bride to meet me in that room her mom asked me if I wanted her to pin the curtains back. I told her no thank you I think the curtains will make the shot! I love how the bride is delicately holding the sides on the curtain too.Editing
In photoshop I brightened the photo just a touch. I was happy with how it looked almost like a silhouette but light enough to see her features and not completely blacked out. Other than that no!In my camera bag
In my bag I have 2 Nikon D5200 camera bodies, my beloved 18-300mm lens that is perfect for any occasion, a Sigma 50mm that is my newest addition and I am absolutely in love with it! My 35 mm, my macro filters, a polarizer, my external flash, a flash diffuser, extra batteries and memory cards, my camera remote, lens wipes, and my business cards :-)Feedback
When shooting into a window or into the light often times your subject can be really dark. Silhouette shots are beautiful, but for this Bride I really wanted the details in her dress to show. I had to meter the shot so that she would come out more and not be blacked out. I absolutely loved the look of the lace curtains and they acted as not only a perfect prop but a great diffuser as well. I love the peacefulness of this shot, which sometimes can be hard to get right before the ceremony because things can get hectic! But when I told the bride to look out into the yard and think of her groom, her entire body relaxed and you could feel the calm. She did a great job and was an absolutely beautiful bride!
