Behind The Lens

Location

I often attend the Veterans Day Ceremony at a local Cemetery to honor past and present Veterans. This was taken at that Ceremony.

Time

They usually start the Ceremony at 8:00 AM and finish right around noon. This was taken while they were waiting to start so probably around 7:45 AM.

Lighting

The lighting here was all natural light. I exposed for the gentleman you see here and everything else was just gravy.

Equipment

I used my Canon 7D & my Canon 55-250 Lens.

Inspiration

When shooting the ceremonies I generally walk around shooting the old Veterans, I think they make amazing stories. This was no different. This was just my favorite one of the day.

Editing

I generally process with photoshop. I think this one was straight out of the camera except for removing a couple blemishes.

In my camera bag

It depends on what I am shooting. I will generally take a few lenses and my camera, an off camera flash or two, a diffuser, spare batteries, I have 8-8 gigabyte cards that I carry with me and a couple of stands for my lights.

Feedback

My advice is, Don't be shy! They never have minded me taking their pictures and normally they give me a smile and even a wave. Don't act like you're doing something wrong, they'll sense it. Just act natural and if they don't want their picture taken don't force the issue. It's the same as shooting street photography but in a more controlled setting.
