Location
This photo is from our local lake and the winter hoarfrost on these plants that provided an opportunity to take macro shots of them. Their buds are delicate, but very interesting when covered with hoarfrost glowing at sunrise. Colors and details are magnificent.Time
Sunrise in winterLighting
I wanted the delicate buds to softly glow in early morning light to show details that were so soft but very prominent.Equipment
I use Canon bodies, an assortment of lenses such as Tamron, Canon, and Sigma for their glass and clarity. I sometimes use built in flash and most always use a quality tripod.Inspiration
Winters soft morning light and details of plant with hoarfrost (ice particles).Editing
Not much. I try to get to know my camera and lens settings, which allows me to experiment with manual settings. In my camera bag
Extra memory cards, lens cleaning tools, soft cloth, 3 or 4 lenses, soft mohair brush for dust, a wireless shutter release, energy bar, and water.Feedback
Learn to look closely at your surroundings and pay close attention to direction of available light in relation to your subject(s). I sometimes carry a small magnifying glass. Full batteries and a portable charger if temps are low. Cold and damp conditions can affect battery charge. Extra batteries are good to have if cold outside. Carry a large clear plastic bag to keep camera dry and dust free. You're all set! Get creative and go have fun and experiment.
