Location
This photo was taken of my friend at a playground nearby our neighborhood. Initially, I took my camera to just mess around and have fun, shooting her playing on the slide, in piles of leaves... But I have always had an interest in experimenting with portraits, which resulted in this photo in particular.Time
It was towards the end of the day, not quite at sunset. We spent the entire day playing on the playground, and this was taken just before we left for dinner.Lighting
When the light hit her face as the sun was making its way down for the day, I sat her down and took a few face shots, and this one of her eye. The lighting was a little harsher than I would usually like for a photo, but the end product was worth it.Equipment
Nikon D5100, 85mm focal length, no flash.Inspiration
She's someone who I could feel comfortable around, which prompted me to sit her down and try full portraits, and some macro shots of her face. Plus, after all of the playing on the playground (nevermind our age haha), I think she was just thankful to sit down and relax, and merely tolerated me shoving a camera in her face.Editing
I changed her eye color to something harsher and more eye catching, to compliment the harsh lighting from the sun.In my camera bag
I usually only pack my newest camera body (Nikon D7000), whatever lenses I have available to me (never know what you'll need!), and PLENTY of lens wipes, a few charged batteries, a few memory cards... Can never be too careful.Feedback
Honestly, just find someone you're extremely comfortable with, and hang around them. Eventually, they'll learn to tolerate the existence of a camera always around them, and it'll become that much easier to experiment with portraits... or in this case, eye macros.
