Location
This is an abandoned house about an hour outside of Calgary. It's nestled in a small valley and depending on what time a year you visit it can be hard to get to. Either crossing a large from above or some mucky stream hopping from below.Time
I started here in the late afternoon for sunset. Got my golden hour shots, then did some blue hour shots while playing with my light and getting ready to see what kind of stars I might see later on. The temperature was dropping rapidly though which made for an interesting night later on.Lighting
Standard higher ISO shot to get the stars. The yellow glowing interior was a hand held off camera flash covered with a yellow gel, being fired into each room as I (carefully) ran through the house during the exposure.Equipment
D800 on a tripod, Nikon 14-24mm 2.8 lens, infrared remote trigger, off camera Yongnuo 560 Speedlight wrapped in yellow theatre gel.Inspiration
I'd previously found and used this house in a shoot with a model. Since then I always wanted to revisit it. So this day I took the time to go back and play.Editing
Tweaked the colors in Lightroom and maybe a little cleanup in Photoshop.In my camera bag

Experiment and find the how far you can push your ISO up to where the noise is too much. Start dialling it back and adjusting exposure times accordingly. For Milky way shots you don't want to go too much past 30 seconds or you'll start to get star trails as the earth turns. Obviously faster lenses will help in achieving this but there are also some great noise reduction software options to clean up your shots if needed after the fact.
