Hi Ned, lovely to see you again! Thanks so much for your likes and PR's on my photos. I appreciate them heaps! I find this is a great place to get ideas, and to learn more about what I am not doing properly with my photographs. Look forward to seeing more of your amazing photos here. How are your beautiful little grandbabies? Take care.

Location
This photo was taken in North Java, NY. (Wyoming County)Time
This was taken on August 27, 2009 at about 1204 pm. I had been cruising the country backroads of western New York looking for photo opportunities when I drove up on a garden of sunflowers. The garden was less well kept than many sunflower gardens I have seen, with weeds and such growing along with the sunflowers. This particular bloom stood out to me as the best example of a sunflower in the garden.Lighting
This photo was taken at a time of day (noon) when the light is said to be terrible for taking photographs. Luckily I seldom follow such advice and was very pleased that it worked out so well in spite of the afternoon light. Sometimes I am not quite so happy with the results at this time of day though.Equipment
I shot this photo using a Nikon D80 camera with an AF-S Nikkor DX 55-300 1:4.5-5.6 G ED VR lens. The settings of f8 at 300 mm were used. The lens at 300mm was necessary as I had to take the photo from the edge of the road in order not to trespass.Inspiration
I have always liked photographs of sunflowers and felt that this flower would make a good photo. I didn't want to totally isolate the flower by itself as I felt the unkept nature of the garden added to its overall charm so leaving some of the weeds in the finished photo enhanced it to me. I have taken other photos of sunflowers since this one but still consider this to be my best. Sometimes, even though you try, you can't outdo yourself. Also of note is the fact that I have never since seen a garden of any type at that location.Editing
Some post processing was done with Adobe Photoshop Elements. I no longer remember the version, but probably 6 or 7. The photo was cropped a bit and some brightening and sharpening applied. I don't remember exactly the settings that I used for that.In my camera bag
Since my time with the Nikon D80 the contents of my bag has changed considerably. I now use a Nikon D750 paired with a Nikkor 80-400mm lens for much of my digital work. Also I usually carry a Nikkor 50mm with me. About 3 years ago I also started to go back to my film roots. I usually have at least one of the more than 60 film cameras I have collected in my bag. They range from small point and shoot 35mm cameras to a large Mamiya RB67 medium format. I love my Nikon F5 and Nikon F3P and still have my first 'real' camera (that I love), a Canon F1n.Feedback
The only advice I can give to others is to give it a shot. Lighting may not be perfect, the subject might not be perfect. Give it a try anyway. You may be as pleased with the results as I was with this sunflower.
