Location
This photo is of the famous lighthouse located in Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia.Time
The photo of the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse was taken right around high noon, with a high cloud ceiling as can be seen in the photograph.Lighting
Although the light for the photo was a hard light, I thought it would show the local rocky topography in a light which would show the texture and vastness of the rock against the lighthouse.Equipment
The photo was taken using an Olympus E420 DSLR camera using an 14-55mm lens set at 18mm. At the time, I didn't have a tripod, so had to rely on using a traditional handhold to steady the camera. Fortunately, due to the light I was able to shoot the photo at 1/320 sec @ f8.Inspiration
While walking in to the lighthouse along the roadway I noticed that the clouds were acting as converging lines leading directly over the lighthouse. I felt that given the distance to the lighthouse, I could capture the clouds, lighthouse and rocks in one photography.Editing
There was a small amount of post-processing done to the photo, namely to the vibrance and the saturation levels to the brings the colours up slightly. I believe that the photos should be able to speak for themselves without a large amount of post processing to produce the end result. In my camera bag
At the time of the photo, I was using an Olympus E420 with two standard zoom lenses (14-55 & 55 - 200). Since that time I have purchased a Canon 60D along with an 18-200 mm lens which is my mainstay. I also now carry a 50mm prime lens, a 100mm macro lens and a EF-S 10-18mm wide angle lens. Of course a tripod now comes with me where ever I go!Feedback
My advice to other photographers would be to have your camera with you, no matter where you go and let the landscape inspire your photography.
