Behind The Lens

Location

Corona Del Mar

Time

This was taken at about 7pm at sunset. It was low tide and all the rocks were exposed with small pools of water.

Lighting

The lighting was great and I tried to get low to get colors in the pools of water of the sunset. The two layers of clouds complimented the rock strata.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D750 with the Nikon 14-24mm F2.8. The lens had a WonderPana filter system with a 5 stop ND and .9 GND.

Inspiration

The coast inspires me and at low tide with clouds we get spectacular sunsets over the water. The ocean is just so magnificent I never get tired of photographing it's beauty.

Editing

Yes just slight adjustments in LightRoom. In low light I tend to slightly over expose so I can bring it down. This way I don't get noise trying to bring it up and or loose info that if to dark just won't come back.

In my camera bag

I carry my Nikon D750, Nikkon 14-24mm f2.8, Wonderpana filter system, 50mm prime f1.4, Sigma 120-400mm f5.6, 2 remote triger, Mephoto Q1 tripod (small but sturdy good for hiking) (4) 32 GB Sandisk 95MB/s. 2 back up batteries. If traveling my back up Nikon D5200 and Tokina 11-18mm F2.8. I do a lot of low light and night photography so a headlamp, 2 small Mag lights, glow sticks and my favorite steel wool, an egg beater on a chain, gloves and a 9 volt battery. Finally cleaning kit and a few granola bars. It gets heavy! Lowpro back pack.

Feedback

Angles and height matter. Getting the reflections of colors in the pools and still being high enough to get enough ocean in the photo is critical. Timing is also crucial. To early or to late and no reflections in the pools. Be mindful of having a foreground, middle and background that all work together to make one photo. Most crucial have fun!
