Behind The Lens

Location

In a small cemetary in South England.

Time

Around midday on a late summer's day.

Lighting

As an outdoos shot this picture only uses found light. The bits of sun light reaching through the trees and glowing softly from behind gives the image a mystic effect.

Equipment

This foto was taken during a trip abroad. I used a simple compact digital camera, no tripod, no flash ... The instantly captured fleeting moment frozen in time provides the quality to this shot

Inspiration

Maybe Im a little weird but I really like walking through cemetarys at day time. To me they're like parks but more aquiet and peaceful after all it's the place where we lay our loved ones to rest and where we go to remember them. And often there are a lot of beautiful old gravestones and sculptures making for great pictures anhanced by the special natural lighting situation with the sunlight coming through the trees or rays of light between the gravestones. The cemetary as a pictorial theme easily evokes the vanitas aspect which is complemented by the soap bubble that at the same times contrasts due to its association with childhood and enjoyment with the sad, end of life notion of graves.

Editing

I filtered the colour out of the picture leaving only the bubble in colour the rest in black and white.

In my camera bag

I dont have any expensive special pro equipment. Usually i only use a compact camera. But I take it everywhere I go so I never miss a striking moment.

Feedback

See above: Take your camera everywhere you go (and maybe also a soap bubble bottle) so you can capture unique moments.
