The Tufted Coquette is a very small hummingbird and is only about 2.6 - 3.1 inches in length. The male, as seen here, has striking black-spotted rufous-orangey-coloured feathers that project from the sides of his neck and a rufous-orangey head crest. This specimen was found at the edge of the forest at the Asa Wright Nature Centre in Trinidad (one of the 5 countries in which it breeds), momentarily resting before darting back to nearby flowers for nectar.
