Behind The Lens

Location
This picture was taken in the city of Cuttack, Orissa, in India. I was visiting my wife's family and one of her cousins drove me around the busy city intersections in his motorcycle for some amazing night shots.
Time
This was taken in the evening at approximately 7 or 8 PM right around the evening Cuttack rush hour. That being said, with approximately 500,000 people, Cuttack is constantly vibrant and chaotic with only a small window of quiet between maybe midnight and 5 AM. If only this picture could capture the sound as well.
Lighting
Mentioning the light in India is like talking about the air. It is heavy in light pollution. Determining the amount of power this place requires would be mind boggling. In this case, the up side of background area lighting is that it creates a beautiful blend to the light trails and keeps the vibrant feel to the setting.
Equipment
This was captured using a Nikon D600 camera with my 28mm wide angle lens, using a Vanguard tripod and ballhead with a remote trigger.
Inspiration
I love light trails and I knew from when I booked my flight to India that this was a shot I needed to take. There is nothing more interesting than vibrant city movement, and no better place to capture it in Asia.
Editing
Post-processing first involved using Lightroom to correct the white balance, highlights and shadows and to add clarity. It was then imported into Photoshop to play with Nik Software and Topaz to clean up some noise from the high ISO setting, and boost depth with extra clarity and structure.
In my camera bag
Right now I carry 4 lenses with my Nikon D600, a 18-35mm f/3.5-4.2, 50mm f/1.8, 105mm f/2.8, and a 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6. In terms of accessories, I have a spare battery, remote trigger, spare SD card and some tools to attach my tripod base if needed. When I take a trek, I will carry my light weight manfrotto tripod strapped to my bag, and for more heavy duty stability, I will carry my Vanguard tripod and ballhead.
Feedback
These shots are extremely easy to setup, you just need to find a good spot around traffic and out of danger. Once you get there, just fire away and hope you get some good action between exposures.
