Thank you!! I love old trees too. I have lots of shots of trees. I'll have to find them and post them.

Thank you so much!! It was a beautiful sunrise there this past Dec. and I had taken a shot of this tree during a sunset on one of the nights, but I just had to take this one that morning. It was a pretty quick snap and I just took one shot. But I was really happy with it.

Location
This photo was taken at sunrise at the Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley on New Year's day in 2015. I was with 2 other friends who said sunsets are just as spectacular as the sunrises. I disagree as the photo I took of this area during the sunset nights before does not compare to the sunrise.Time
This was a memorable sunrise because I dragged my friends out of bed to get out there not knowing what to expect. But as the sun came up over the dunes, it was just spectacular.Lighting
I loved how the sun hit the mountain range in the background and lit that up and the light on the tree was very subtle -- amazing sunrise that morning!!Equipment
I used my Canon T4i, using the kit lens of 18-55mm, hand held with no flash.Inspiration
I just loved how the sun lit the mountain range in the background and how this one tree seemed so magnificent in the foreground. I loved that the tree looks dead, yet felt so alive. I felt like it would make a good photograph and I was very much attracted to the colors.Editing
I did very minimal post-processing on Lightroom. I worked on the basics of decreasing the highlights, boosting the shadows, increasing the clarity a bit, and increased the vibrance to make the color "pop" a bit more.In my camera bag
I usually have my Befree Manfrotto tripod, a 18-55mm, a telephoto 70-200mm, wide angle lens of 10-22mm, and a prime lens of 60mm (macro lens).Feedback
My advice would be to go out for sunrise and sunset and compare the two. The light during the sunrise is like no other and you will not be disappointed going out for a sunrise. The Mesquite dunes is a very special place in my opinion.
