Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Oakdale, a little ex mining village in the South Wales Valleys, UK.

Time

This is a beautiful image of my daughter. We had such fun that morning. We wrapped up warm, took the cameras and headed off to the local park, just opposite the house. It was just before 11am on 14th January 2015. She had the day off school as the buses were not running due to the snow. It always happens. We are higher up than the school and we get cut off quite quickly with very little snowfall elsewhere.

Lighting

The lighting was just natural sunlight from behind me and the time of day helped the shoot dramatically

Equipment

A Canon 700D, with a Canon Zoom LensEF 70-200M 1:4. No flash.

Inspiration

Both Celyn and I were randomly taking photographs and I needed some of her for my assignment in college which I had started in October 2014. She just looks so lovely standing there taking photographs. The photograph of the photographer.

Editing

I took the picture in JPEG and took it through photoshop and adjusted the levels a little and played around with the colour filters. I am an amateur photographer and when I took this had only had my camera a few months and photoshop was new. Therefore, very little adjustment from the original photograph

In my camera bag

As stated earlier, this is my first DSLR camera. I bought it as it was recommend in the Which magazine. It, to me, as a novice is fantastic. I have made some beautiful images from it already. My lens, which I had for Christmas, is amazing. The F4, Canon Zoom EF 70-200M. I also carry the standard lens that came with the camera. I have a Hoya Pro 1 digital filter on the zoom lens. I am building up my equipment slowly. I have a Velbon tripod which I bought second hand off ebay and it suits the purpose.

Feedback

The advice I would give is to get out early. The early morning settings are far better than later in the day for the crispness of the natural light and the sun is not too strong. Just take any opportunities that arise. Most of my best pictures are unplanned. Just looking and seeing what is right is important for me.
