It was originally a color photo with a nice blue sky, but with some playing I think it is a better black and white.

Behind The Lens

Location
Tyler State Park, Newtown, Pennsylvania
Time
It was probably mid to late afternoon in February.
Lighting
Nothing special except the natural sun light was behind me as I looked down stream of the Neshaminy Creek that flows through the park.
Equipment
I have a Nikon 3200 with a Tamron 18-270 lens. Very basic equipment. I did not use a tripod. I took it on Manual setting at 100 ISO, 1/100, F-16.0 at 18mm. Originally it was taken in color but after looking at it on Coral Paint Spot Pro and playing it really popped for me in black and white and I was able to contrast the clouds in the sky which I think are a big part of the photo.
Inspiration
I just wanted some winter photos so I drove the 20 minutes to the park from my home and walked around briefly and took a few pictures. It was pretty cold and had to keep my hands alternated in pockets because can't work the camera well in gloves.
Editing
Basically all I did was transform it to black and white and mess a bit (very little) with contrast.
In my camera bag
This is the only camera and lens I have and use except for a Nikon Cool Pix 100 that is more compact and I take that out to certain golf courses to put in the cart when I play just looking for a picture here or there.
Feedback
I think the lighting is most important as well as ISO setting. Keeping the sun to your back gives best results. Shooting into the sun may get some nice photos but you have to be very specific on your settings. I am not any more than intermediate in skill level and with digital it allows me to just snap away and change settings then see what came out best and try to remember what I did. As far as ISO, the lower the better. On shutter speed anything less than 1/100 can produce a blurry shot and that is where a tripod comes into play. On this day no tripod and I got lucky getting a great shot. The color photo isn't too bad but as I said, it popped for me in black and white. This is just a hobby or pass time for me and so much fun.
