Location
Photo was made somewhere in the Zumberak mountain range (Croatia).Time
September 2004, around 0800 hoursLighting
Crisp and clear mountain sunlight - possibly the best light there is, considering the clarity of the ambient and air.Equipment
Olympus µ (mju, or Stylus) 725 SW, out of hand, with no added equipment.Inspiration
Autumn in the mountains is one strong motive to go and enjoy the Nature, and there will always be sufficient inspiration for all kinds of photos. This one I think, was provoked by the tree stump and chainsaw traces in it: another nameless story about the trees becoming firewood. I just put the leaf there to add color and another, natural chapter to the harsh, man-made destiny.Editing
The photo was just cropped to somewhat tighter frame, and nothing much more was needed. In my camera bag
I use a photo vest and distribute all my equipment to its pockets. There will usually be two cameras: the "main" one which is usually of a bridge type, and a "spare" which has to be watertight, and serves either underwater, or shooting in bad weather. The spare batteries, ND and CPL filters, one camera clamp instead of a tripod, a length of paracord (or similar), some firemaker and a pocket knife also belong in the regular gear that I improvise with if I have to. I firmly believe in "travel light - go far" doctrine. If I plan to be out for the whole day, I'll pack a sandwich or a bar of chocolate and small water bottle, and the back vest pocket might pack a lightweight rain poncho. That's about it...Feedback
Nothing to it, really. This was a simple composition from found elements, and any camera will be good for such a theme. What you see when you roam the woods (or anywhere in the Outdoors) is what you feel about the space you're moving through. Your eyes will sift through the possible photographing objects in accordance to what you decide to notice; highlighting the truth in “We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.” (Anaïs Nin) So move slowly, notice all, try to see frames and compositions everywhere - and for once, try not to think about work, office, bills and similar distractions... ;)
