This beautiful old bridge is in Caledonia Ontario and is above the Grand River which runs thru this quaint town. Anytime of year is worth the venture along this slow moving river. A sanctuary for wildlife- Herons, Egrets and many birds that nest within the shoreline trees.Time
This photo was taken in midafternoon , being winter, the light was already fading so i captured the bridge and its reflection as the grey started to turn the sky. The temperature was nice , not to cold and gave the atmosphere a softer blend.Lighting
I really liked the natural winter light that day.... I didn't feel I needed to change the exposure or adjust any highlights. I added a touch of sepia to bring out the age of the bridge .Equipment
I have a NikonD3500 and stick to my 300 mm Tamron Macro lens. Rarely go to a smaller lens. i am almost exclusively landscapes and enjoy shooting right from my car, especially in the winter !!!Inspiration
I have love this old bridge and spent many evenings looking over the Grand as the sun settles, truly amazing. I wanted to show the history of this river by showcasing the bridge, it has a a beautiful town dedication from the early 1900's. There was talk of upgrading or even building a newer bridge to accommodate the increasing population and travel across this old bridge. Like the Old Mill in Caledonia which was rebuilt last year, we need to preserve the history in photos as I have done....Editing
Not much... i added a touch of Sepia to bring out the age of the bridge, it also gave more overall color to the water and sky. The sharpness was right on as well as the exposure... I check for digital noise and adjust if needed. In my camera bag
I invested in a great camera bag, so I am able to keep my camera well protected especially in winter. The dividers in the bag work as snug covers keeping everything in place . I like to have an extra chip stored in my bag, incase of a full card... i hate to delete so i can change over quickly. Cleaning cloths for sure and a lens pen for inner cleaning if needed.Feedback
Bridges make great compositions as you can shoot from so many angles, they attract wildlife above and below ,the rivers or streams that run under them provide excellent photo ops also.....
