Location
This image of an inexperienced model was taken in a friends studio. I had very limited exposure (pun intended lol) to studio work and the lighting techniques involved. I learnt a lot that day.Time
I really do not remember the time of day I think about mid to late morning. I do remember being very nervous as it was my first shoot with a model unknown to me but we seemed to click and I think that comes across in the images we got, particularly this one which is probably my favourite of her.Lighting
I was drawn to her for her natural beauty, particularly her eyes. Even though she was relatively inexperienced her relaxed nature and personality made me relaxed as well. I wanted to highlight her features and to draw the viewer into her eyes. I had a couple of strobes to her left and right fired through umbrellas and two more lighting up the white backdrop behind her.Equipment
This was shot using an Olympus E30 with a Zuiko Lens ED 50-200mm (100-400 equiv) f2.8-3.5 SWD. Th lights I mentioned above I seem to recall were Bowens I don't remember the name of the light meter nor the transmitter. That's it no tripod hand held.Inspiration
Well I went to the location to get experience in lighting studio portraits and posing techniques. When I met the sitter I just HAD to capture her in a way that I could convey how I felt about her. She became my inspiration.Editing
I used Photoshops Black and White adjustment layer and worked on several files and other adjustment layers to obtain the the highkey portrait that I aimed for within camera. Clean up of minor blemishes etc.In my camera bag
Currently my bag has a Canon 7D Mk11. Canon lens 16-35mm 1.4L IS, 24-70mm 1.4L IS, and a 70-200mm 1.2.8L IS. A Canon 600EX-Rt Speedlite. Several Grad Filters, a WiFi remote, spare batteries for everything along with spare cards, a camera rain cover and all those miscellaneous things that we photographers seem to carry around.Feedback
If your inexperienced in such genre as I was just go with the flow but and I do not know how many times I have read this before and after the shoot you HAVE GOT to create something of a relationship between you and the person/s you are about to photograph that is soooooo important. This was made easier on this shoot because of this particular model but because of the connection we had I was able, I hope, to produce a natural image of the real person. Also experiment with lights. This is a lot easier these days with the immediate benefit of digital, don't forget to use that advantage.
