Where to even start with this? This DreamWorld photo has been the most important and most difficult photo yet, requiring the most amount of work both in pre- and post-production. But it was so, so worth it!
I'd known that there would eventually be a king of Dreamworld for quite a while, but I wasn't sure who should be cast for the role. When I heard that Peter S. Beagle would be in town for his The Last Unicorn cross-country movie screening tour, I immediately saw him as the king, and knew he would be beyond perfect for him. It all came together within the stretch of a couple weeks, which meant cramming several months of work into a very short space, and only putting the finishing touches on things shortly before midnight on the night before the shoot.
Every prop and piece of costume was hand-made by myself for these photos. The book that Katie is holding took over 30 hours just on its own. I truly lost track of how many hours I put into creating the pieces, let alone how long the editing took. I wrote a huge <b&bt; blog entry<-b&bt; about how I made it all, including the folded paper crown, robes turning into scrolls of paper, the magic quill and book, along with lots of behind the scenes photos!
I can hardly express how meaningful it was to me to have Peter step into Dreamworld, to be able to photograph someone who has been an incredible source of inspiration and awe to me for most of my life. It was breathtakingly wonderful and will always stand out as one of the highlights of my career.
