Location
This photo was taken at a friend's barn. I was actually there to photograph the barn and all of the old, forgotten treasures inside. This stray cat decided to investigate, and stole the show.Time
It was late afternoon, near golden hour. I remember holding my camera down to the grass for the curious cat to investigate. Without looking through the viewfinder, I clicked, and this image was the result! If you squint you can see my reflection in those big, glowing eyes.Lighting
The lighting was serendipitous. Beautiful, soft, and warm. All of the photos from this day have a glow.Equipment
I used a Nikon D5100, 18-55mm lens, no tripod, no flash.Inspiration
Just look at this cat! Those eyes are mesmerizing. Much more interesting than the old barn. I was obligated.Editing
This was in the days before I was using Lightroom, so any editing was done in Photoshop. I upped the contrast to really let those eyes POP!In my camera bag
As a petite person, I typically like to travel light when it comes to camera gear. If I know what I'll be shooting, I'll only bring the necessary lens and of course spare batteries and memory cards. As a novice photographer with a professional design background, I rely fairly heavily on post-processing to perfect the shot.Feedback
Allow space for spontaneity. Sometimes the best shots are the ones we aren't expecting. When a stray cat with alluring eyes won't leave you alone, it's a sign!
