Behind The Lens

Location

I was visiting this city (Sion, Wallis, Switzerland) with a couple of exchange student friends. We walked up the hill to make it to a casttle, and we stood right behind the "door". From there you could see the entire city and the Alps in the background.

Time

It was almost 19:00, at dawn.

Lighting

I didn't have any tripod at the moment and that's why I had to use a high level of ISO, which ended up bringing a lot of noise to the picture. That was the only way to make a reasonably good picture with the elements I had at the moment I took it.

Equipment

I used a Canon Rebel T3 with a 18-55 mm lens on it. I had no tripod or flash at that moment.

Inspiration

What inspired me to take this picture was the breath taking landscape this city offers. Switzerland in general is a beautiful country, but I totaly fell in love with this city since the moment I got off the train. The fact that the city is 7000 years old, that you have the Swiss Alps in the background and that every city looks wonderful at night because of the lightening made it a perfect opportunity to take a picture. I wanted to keep this moment in my mind forever. You can't see something like this everyday!

Editing

Yes, I did a lot of processing. I usually use Lighroom to do it, and this time I had to do it specially because the real picture had a lot more noise on it and I wanted to correct that a little. I also changed a little bit the composition of the colours to make it look more schocking.

In my camera bag

I'm not a profesional photographer, I'm just starting with this and I don't have that much money to spend on equipment. So I only carry on basic stuff like some filters, two macro lens and a tripod. I keep it simple, I just do this as a hobby.

Feedback

For pictures like this it's always better to use a tripod, so you can make longer exposures and reduce the noise in your pictures by lowing the ISO levels as down as posible.
