Great! Confusing 3D illusion makes the viewer want to keep looking.

Behind The Lens

Location

In Alicante there is a footbridge over a main road. Whilst you are up there, it's always worth looking down as you get a pretty amazing view of this crazy paving, and anyone running along looks like they are going up a very cuboid staircase!

Time

it doesn't matter what time of day you are there as the optical illusion is always a great one.

Lighting

If you are unlucky and have a cloudy day, it can often work better as the sun throws some very stark shadows on the pavement which can ruin the illusion.

Equipment

This was taken on a Canon D600, handheld with no flash. The lens was a Tamron 18-300 zoom.

Inspiration

I just love the optical illusion here. It reminds me of an 80s computer game called Q*bert!

Editing

I always shoot in RAW but there was almost no post-processing required here.

In my camera bag

I'm often out with just the camera and the lens. It's not unusual for me to carry other lenses and filters with me for weeks and not use them!

Feedback

Just get out there and enjoy your photography. Look for unusual angles. That's often where the magic is.
