I was walking home and found this fellow on the footpath, not very happy, sadly he probably won't live much longer.I brought him home to photograph and then put him in some shrubs.
This is a male New Zealand Tree Weta, and they are endemic only to NZ and predate dinosaurs. There are 70 different species here with 16 of them endangered. This one has a body of about 375mm(1.5 inches) long and his antenna (the good one) is roughly two and a half times his body length.

Amazing creatures eh. Nice shot. I'm from NZ and have never photographed a male weta. Better do something about that!
