What a beautiful flower! It looks like a compressed composite of a Vipers' Bugloss. Its florets are roughly the same, although on the VB, they are 1/2 inch long and separated on a bristly stem.i Vipers Bugloss is used in snake bite antidote. Do you know anything of this wildflowers' properties?

I knew once, not long after I took the photo I thought it was native to Angel Island but don't hold me to that. If I fond my notes o will pass the name on to you. Thanks for the comments.
