You must be channeling Georgia O'Keefe...this looks like one of her paintings...great work on the contrast, and excellent choice to do this in black and white...

Behind The Lens

Location

Flower shows have always been areas of great interest to me. I spotted this flower in one such show and brought it home through my camera. While editing the image, I found that this particular sort of B&W gave it just the sort of edge I wanted.

Time

It was in the afternoon on its way to merge with the evening that I took the shot as I roamed cheerily in the flower show.

Lighting

The warm afternoon light is always among the best to capture nature. You don't need much else to aid your photographs at that time of the day as they bring out the most beautiful in any image.

Equipment

I used a Canon 60D without flash- or about anything else at all.

Inspiration

Flower photography is undeniably my favourite. I try to bring out the grace in those petals, the beauty in the story they have to say but one has to listen.

Editing

Yes. After adjusting the exposure a bit, I inverted the colours of the image which transformed it from the regular pastel color of the flower to this B&W.

In my camera bag

Apart from my Canon lens, I carry a Tamron lens with a wider zoom and often an attachable flash. Yes, and silica gel is a must to keep the moisture at bay.

Feedback

The most important thing is a deep interest in what you're working at. There is beauty in even the tiniest or commonest of objects and this should be kept in mind. One should always have the urge to not only feel the emotion of an image but to express it too. For capturing flowers, one should love and appreciate the world that lies within them and before you know it, you're drunk in their beauty.
