Location
This photo was taken at the Arizona Balloon Classic in Phoenix, Arizona. This was a three day event that included hot air balloon races, tethered rides, night-time flights that illuminate the sky and fireworks.Time
The event started at 7am and I got there around 7:45am.Lighting
The sun was just starting to rise around 7:30am and I took this picture about a hour and a half after I got there. I thought the morning light highlighted the balloons perfectly!Equipment
I am just getting started with digital photography and received a Nikon 3200 for Christmas. I used that along with a 55-200mm lens.Inspiration
I was in awe watching the hot air balloons being inflated by the crews and then seeing them take off. I had never been that close to one before and it was a great experience. I was taking some close up shots of two balloons that were getting ready for take off when I turned around and saw most of the balloons had left. I looked up and saw this photo. They were lined up perfectly and immediately started clicking away! I couldn't have asked for a better shot!Editing
I didn't do too much post processing as I wanted to just enhance what I viewed in person. I bumped up the highlights a little along with the contrast and intensified the blacks a smidgeon. In my camera bag
Since I am just getting started I have my Nikon 3200, 18-55mm lens and 55-200mm lens. I hope to add a couple more lenses in the near future.Feedback
My advice would be to take a lot of pictures (you can never take too many) and try out different angles. I've been asked if I was in a hot air balloon when I took this, but I was on the ground. Being 6'3, I have the height, but I also stood on my tip toes to get the mountains and trees out of the frame. Moving a few extra inches can change a good pic into a great one!
