Behind The Lens

Location

On the second day of my trip to Costa Rica we stopped to photograph a nearby waterfall and found a small local store which had a deck to view and photograph the local hummingbirds.

Time

This was taken around mid morning on a day that had rained earlier...we would come to know that it can rain at any given time in Costa Rica then become quite sunny a second later.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect as it was a bit overcast and the sun would come out just a bit and the hummingbirds feathers would give a nice shine to them.

Equipment

This was taken with my Canon 7D mk2 and Canon 70-200 2.8 lens

Inspiration

This was my first trip to Costa Rica and hummingbirds and toucans were high on my list of the wildlife I had hoped to find and photograph

Editing

I did my usual PP which consisted of blurring the background a bit, and sharpening a touch and denoising the whole photo.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my Canon 70-200 f2.8, Canon 24-105 f4, some water, bug spray and a towel.

Feedback

My only advice is to look for something different in everything you see. Be it an angle to shoot from or a display that is not seen very often, and of course a lot of patience, but if you are enjoying your surroundings then there is really no need for patience.
